FrontPage
FrontPage is a software product used to create websites. Providing a desktop platform to work from, templates are used, similar to word processing or desktop publishing software. Made up of several components, pages are created and edited in FrontPage Editor, while FrontPage Explorer acts as a web browser for the testing of links and images. With a toolbar and pull down menus, you can add or remove text, images, tables, links, and more by dragging and clicking.
FrontPage Extensions
FrontPage Extensions are programs providing the server side implementation of FrontPage. Communication between FrontPage and the extensions takes place via HTTP using a Remote Procedure Call (RPC). When the server sees the "POST" request addressed to the FrontPage server extensions it directs the request to the appropriate CGI program. The extensions implement authoring (uploading/downloading documents, ToDo Lists), administration (setting administrator, author, and end-user privileges) and dynamic content (browse-time WebBot components).
Among the FrontPage components that may be included in a site are form handlers, hit counters, link bars, top 10 lists, discussions and full text searches.
